1. 🎭 Patrick Stewart Dies at 86: Star Trek and X-Men Actor Remembered

Sir Patrick Stewart has died at 86. To so many of us, he was Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor X in the X-Men movies, and he was a celebrated Shakespearean stage actor long before Hollywood found him. E! News and Fox News report that he had been living with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Tributes are pouring in from fans and castmates around the world, including his X-Men co-star Famke Janssen.

One more thing that tugged at my heart: Avengers: Doomsday, in theaters December 18, will be his final film.

He joins a long list of beloved stars we have lost in 2026, including Catherine O’Hara and James Van Der Beek. Hug your people today.

2. ⛽ Gas Prices Dip Before Halloween, but Still Over $1 Higher Than Last Year

A little good news at the pump. AAA says the national average dropped to $4.22 a gallon, down 5 cents from last week. The catch? Prices are still more than a dollar higher than a year ago, and crude oil above $100 a barrel is keeping them from falling further. Oil prices also rose this morning after Houthi attacks on Saudi oil sites raised supply worries. If you are planning a Thanksgiving road trip, keep an eye on prices and fill up when you see a good one.

3. 🛒 DoorDash Buying Instacart in a $17 Billion Deal

Your grocery delivery apps are about to become one family. DoorDash announced plans this week to buy Instacart in a deal valued at about $17 billion. DoorDash stock rose on the news and Instacart’s fell, and Bloomberg reports the move is aimed squarely at Walmart and Amazon in the grocery delivery race. A deal this size still has to make its way through approvals, so watch for updates from both apps before anything changes on your end.

🚄 Spain Train Crash Near Madrid: What We Know

Two high-speed trains collided Wednesday near Urda, in Spain’s Toledo province, more than 80 miles south of Madrid. At least 69 people have died, according to the Transport Ministry’s provisional count, and dozens were hurt. Spain’s transport minister says a Renfe train was allowed to keep moving past a stop signal and struck a stationary Iryo train, and he called a control-center decision “inexplicable.” The investigation is ongoing, and Spain is observing three days of mourning.

💰 Binance Hack: $6.3 Billion Crypto Theft Explained

Crypto exchange Binance confirmed this morning that about $6.3 billion in digital assets was drained from its wallets overnight. That makes it the largest crypto theft on record, roughly four times the 2025 Bybit hack. Blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs linked the attack to North Korea’s TraderTraitor hacking group. About $3 billion has been frozen so far. Binance says “User funds are safe” and that losses will be covered by its emergency user fund and company money, and it paused deposits and withdrawals on several networks as a precaution. 🇮🇱 Israel Election Results 2026: A Deadlock

Israel voted on October 27, and the final results are in: nobody has a majority. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc won 53 of 120 seats, short of the 61 needed to govern. The opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot won 48. Arab parties won 19 seats combined, which could make them important players in what comes next. Coalition talks are underway, and if no one can form a government, Israel could head to another election.

🍹 Chili’s Margarita Mix-Up Leaves Customers With Chemical Burns

This one is all over X this morning, and the viral posts got one detail wrong. At a Chili’s in Forest City, North Carolina, margaritas were made with a granulated degreasing chemical that an employee mistook for sugar, not salt, according to the Foothills Health District. Three customers had chemical burns around their mouths, and two employees who tasted the drinks had similar symptoms. Health officials say a contracted worker power-washing the building had left an unlabeled container in the bar area. The restaurant’s food permit was suspended, then reinstated on October 29 after a full cleaning. Friend, this is your reminder that labels matter, at work and at home.

💰 Stock Market News This Week

I am not a financial advisor. This is news, not advice.

📉 Big Tech Had a Rough Week: Alphabet, Amazon and Intel

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, fell about 11% on Thursday after missing Wall Street’s expectations on both earnings and revenue for the first time in nearly four years. It also spent more cash than it brought in during the quarter. The funny part? Google searches actually grew at their fastest pace in five years. Then, after the bell, Amazon fell about 7% after missing expectations, and Intel plunged about 26% on a weak outlook it blamed on a slow PC market. Tech-heavy Nasdaq futures were down about 2% early this morning.
