The Battle Is the Lord's

Faith when life doesn't get easier.

Hey you, it's me.

I hope you've had a fabulous Sunday Funday. I don't usually write to you on Sundays, but here I am, dictating this while I curl my hair.

I kept asking myself, who can I talk to about this week? You came to mind right away.

You've become a friend to me through this little space. Your messages, your letters, your stories, and your excitement about joining me for season five make my heart so happy. On days like this one, I need to remember how much connection has already come from simply showing up.

And if this is your first time here in this space, welcome. I'm so glad you found your way here.

Because, friend, this week has been messy.

Silent to Spoken releases this Tuesday, October 6. Five years of writing, healing, questioning, and finding the courage to put my story on paper.

And I haven't even seen it in print.

My author copies are stuck at the printer. My publisher is working through it, and I'm standing in my kitchen asking, "Okay, what now? What's Plan B?"

I had a vision. I pictured holding the books in my hands, opening the boxes with you, getting everything ready. I wanted this moment to unfold a certain way.

And I've cried because it hasn't.

Being a Christian Doesn't Mean Showing Up Perfectly

Here's something I need to say out loud. Being a Christian doesn't mean I show up perfectly. It doesn't mean I never get frustrated. It doesn't mean life suddenly gets easier.

I love Jesus, and I've still been a hot mess this week.

Last week I posted "Happy Friday" in the Facebook group. On a Thursday. That should tell you exactly how this midlife brain has been doing.

Normally, I'd put on the brave face and show you only the part that looks pulled together. But when I wrote this book, I promised to start letting you in. So I'm letting you in.

I Feel Like David With a Rock

As a first-time author with no physical book in hand, I feel a little like David walking out to face Goliath. Everyone else seems to have the armor and the sword. I'm standing there holding a rock.

And my thoughts have been loud.

Will the book do well? Will people buy it? Will it reach the woman who needs it? What if all this work never becomes what I hoped it would?

Disappointment has a way of dragging old feelings back up. Rejection. Being forgotten. Wondering why I seem to draw the short straw even when I'm trying so hard.

If I've felt this way, I know you probably have, too.

Maybe you're worried about a relationship, your health, your job, or something you've spent years working toward. You had a picture of how it would all unfold, and now you're doing your best to make sense of the life taking shape in front of you.

I see you. I'm having one of those weeks myself.

But here's what I keep coming back to. David didn't win because of the rock. Before he ever let it fly, he told Goliath, "The battle is the Lord's" (1 Samuel 17:47). God was already in that fight before David stepped onto the field.

This book launch is the Lord's, too. So is whatever you're facing this week.

He Is Already in Our Tomorrow

This morning, I was listening to "I Can Only Imagine." Christian music is often where I turn when I'm stressed or overwhelmed. Hearing faith set to music helps me find words when my own thoughts get loud.

And I had to pause.

I had to stop and remind myself of what I already know: He has a plan. His plan is bigger than mine.

I want to control the timing. I want reassurance. I want to know everything will arrive and work out exactly when I need it to.

But I can't see the whole path. None of us can.

We often need to pause and remind ourselves of that.

We don't have to see the entire path because He already does. He is already in our tomorrow. He knows our thoughts, our hopes, and every prayer we've whispered, even the ones we couldn't finish.

That helps me breathe. I can care deeply about this book and still remember that God already values me, boxes or no boxes.

Maybe the day I finally open those boxes will be the exact day someone needs this book. I hope so. I don't know why this delay is happening, and I don't need to invent an answer before I bring my disappointment to God.

I can simply pray, "Father, I wanted this so badly. I'm hurt. I'm scared. Help me with the next step."

Faith can look like sending an email about your frustration, looking for a practical solution, and crying into your pillow at night. All in the same week. That isn't weak faith. That's honest faith.

Yesterday, some of you prayed for me when I was really stuck in my head. Thank you. I'm getting emotional just typing that. You reminded me that people are walking right beside me.

So today, on this Sunday, I'm giving myself permission to pause, reset, and begin again.

Maybe you need that permission, too.

Take five minutes.

Put the phone down. Let your shoulders drop. Tell God what you're truly thinking and feeling before Monday starts. You can be honest with Him. You can say, "I don't understand." You can bring the prayer that comes out through tears and half-finished sentences. He already knows it anyway.

If you're facing your own Goliath this week, send me a message. I'd be honored to pray for you.

You can also share it in our little community on Facebook. There are two spaces. Everyone is welcome in The Messy Middle, our group for men and women. If you prefer a ladies-only space, the Silent to Spoken Sisterhood is there for you.

Share only what you feel comfortable sharing. You've given me so much kindness, and I'd love to give some back.

Nobody has it all together.
Every walk has hard days, and this week has held a few of mine.

I'm still here. Still writing. Still praying. Still holding my little rock and trusting God with a path I can't fully see.

And I'm so glad you're here with me.

I'm waiting on your note~

What is the Goliath you are facing this week? Tell me, and I will be honored to pray for you.

P.S. Silent to Spoken: A Woman's Journey Through the Pause releases this Tuesday, October 6. Thank you for every preorder, prayer, message, and bit of encouragement. You can preorder through Ballast Books or Barnes & Noble.

Once my author copies arrive, I'd love to put together a few book boxes with a Christian planner, a pen, a bookmark, and some other goodies I've been gathering. I'm also giving away a loaded Bible I bought for the Camino. I ended up carrying the one my daughter made for me, so this one is ready for a new home. I'd love to add some holiday gift cards, too. Would you enjoy a giveaway as we head into season five? Tell me what would make it extra sweet.
