What Are the Uncommon Menopause Symptoms Nobody Talks About?

Is this menopause, or am I losing my mind? Spoiler β€” your body is changing, not failing.

Hey you, it is me.

Can we talk about how nobody warned us about some of these symptoms? I think women everywhere are quietly Googling, is this menopause, or am I losing my mind?

The list is longer than anyone tells you. Brain fog. Anxiety. Joint pain. Dry skin. Hair changes. Mood swings. Exhaustion. And the one that stopped me cold, bone density. I recently found out my bone density looked closer to a 65 year old woman, and I just stared at the doctor, like, ma am, what?

Here is the science that reframed it for me. So much of this traces back to hormones, and your brain is full of receptors that respond to them. When estrogen shifts, mood, memory, sleep, and the body itself all feel it. You are not imagining the fog. There is a real reason for it, and naming the reason takes some of the fear out. Women move through menopause, and men move through hormone shifts too. Either way, the body starts asking for more attention than it used to.

How I keep this from becoming despair. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and that did not expire at 44. A changing body is still a wonderfully made one. I am learning to listen to mine instead of fighting it.

Please hear me as a friend over coffee, not a doctor. I am only sharing my own story. Anything that worries you is worth taking to a doctor you trust, and you are allowed to ask for the labs and answers you need.

Now your turn. What symptom blindsided you the most? Writing them out loud helps all of us feel less alone in it.

If no one told you today: your body is changing, not failing.

Just stay sweet and gentle with yourself.
Love you,
Jenn
