How Do I Heal My Nervous System?
Why does my body feel overwhelmed all the time, and what actually helps.
Hey you, it is me.
I think half the internet is secretly searching the same thing I have typed in at midnight:
How do I heal my nervous system?
And honestly, I get it. You feel overstimulated, reactive, wired, and tired all at once. I have felt like I am standing in seven lanes of traffic, and every lane is honking.
Here is the part I am learning: your nervous system keeps score.
Stress, heartbreak, moving, menopause, friendship loss, and the endless noise of a phone all register in the body. Your brain cannot always tell the difference between good stress and bad stress. Sometimes it just knows you feel unsafe, overwhelmed, or overloaded, so it keeps the alarm running.
The good news is this: the body can learn safety again.
Slowly. Gently. Through small, repeated signals.
Here is what I am actually doing this week to help myself reset.
I start by changing my body temperature. Sometimes that looks like a warm cloth or a cool cloth on my wrist when I feel the stress rising.
You know I love a slow walk, but it is more than just walking. It is paying attention to the rhythm: Left foot. Right foot. Left foot. Right foot.
That steady rhythm tells my body, “We are moving. We are safe. We do not have to stay stuck in the alarm.”
And my favorite reset lately is cuddling with Thor. He is basically a weighted blanket with fur and opinions.

What actually helps you come back down lately?
I want to know what works, and I am also learning to ditch what doesn’t. Because the truth is, we were never meant to go through this season alone.
