Hey you, it’s me! 💋

It’s time to Go & Glow!

Have you ever woken up, looked in the mirror, and thought, Oh my gosh, what worked yesterday is not working today? Why is my makeup cakey? Why is my face dry? What in the world is happening?

If you’ve asked any of those questions, this one is for you. At 44, I’ve learned that the routine I used to swear by isn’t always what my skin needs today. So I spent 2026 paying attention, researching ingredients, asking questions, and trying things that actually fit this season of life.

And before the men scroll away, gentlemen, you deserve to glow, too. I’ve got something for you later in this note.

First, here are the five beauty essentials that have earned their place in my own routine. No gatekeeping around here!

1. Best Lip Gloss and Plumpers for Dry Lips: My Too Faced and rhode Favorites

I’m not much of a lipstick girl. Give me hydration, shine, and a little plump. God didn’t give this girl a whole lot of lip to work with, so at least after my gloss it looks like I have one! 😂

I reach for rhode peptide lip products for that glossy, comfortable feel and Too Faced Lip Injection when I want the extra plumped-up look. These are products I use, and they make me feel a little more put together without a full face of makeup.

What changed for me: I started choosing lip products for comfort and moisture as much as appearance. Midlife dryness is real, including on the lips. Plumping gloss can tingle or irritate sensitive skin, so check the ingredients and how your own lips respond.

2. My 3-Month Curology Review: Morning Azelaic Acid and Nighttime Tretinoin

One of my biggest beauty changes this year was Curology, a prescription I got after sending photos of my skin and talking with a care provider without leaving home. I was already using tretinoin at night. What I added was a prescribed morning formula, and I’ve now been using the paired routine for about three months.

My morning formula contains azelaic acid 5%, niacinamide 4%, and dexpanthenol 1%. My nighttime formula contains tretinoin 0.05%, niacinamide 4%, and dexpanthenol 1%. Together they cost me about $89, based on what I pay.

What have I noticed? My skin looks smoother, has more of a glow, and seems a little firmer to me. Because I was already using tretinoin, I can’t say the morning formula alone caused those changes. It’s simply my experience after updating my routine.

My takeaway: learn what your skin needs and work with your own qualified prescribing provider. Prescription retinoids can irritate skin and aren’t appropriate for everyone, including during pregnancy.

Current offer: Curology is offering new subscribers their first box free when you subscribe, a 30-day trial, after a quick online consultation with their medical provider. Restrictions apply and offers can change, so check the terms before you sign up.

3. Best Tinted Sunscreen for Mature Skin: My Everyday DRMTLGY and CeraVe SPF

I used to think of sunscreen as something I needed for the beach or pool. Researching midlife skin changed that mindset. Now it belongs in my everyday routine, even on days I’m mostly at home and might spend time near bright windows.

I alternate between DRMTLGY Universal Tinted Moisturizer SPF 46 and CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 in Medium Sheer Tint. Sometimes both appear in my routine. They give me a little coverage, which is perfect for everyday life. I save my L’Oréal True Match Lumi foundation for podcast recordings, date nights, and special occasions.

My takeaway: look for broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, use enough to receive the labeled protection, and reapply as directed when outdoors. SPF numbers do not add together when you layer products. I also remember my ears, neck, and backs of my hands.

4. Best Volumizing Mascara for Separation: Why I Love Tarte Maneater

If you know me, you know I’m serious about my mascara. Tarte Maneater is my favorite favorite, especially because of the wand. It separates my lashes and gives them volume.

And yes, ladies, I layer my mascara! I start with Maneater and go in with Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Platinum Volumizing Mascara for my finished look. I’ve bought multiples during sales and even given them to friends. If I catch a great deal, I stock up.

My takeaway: I’ve learned that application matters as much as the product. I like a wand that separates first, then I layer for the look I want. I’ve seen Maneater for around $10 to $12 during earlier Black Friday sales, but those aren’t guaranteed 2026 prices.

5. Lumify Redness Reliever Eye Drops: What I Use During Allergy Season

Between seasonal allergies to dust and grass, cleaning my own house, and all the things floating around, my eyes can get red. When my daughter lived at home, I also reacted to her dog Pluto’s dander, which seemed to find its way onto everything. And how exactly are we supposed to avoid dust when we’re the ones doing the dusting?

I keep Lumify on hand for the times I want to reduce the visible redness, especially before recording, a photoshoot, a special occasion, or simply when my eyes look red. I have blue eyes, so I really notice it.

My takeaway: Lumify is an over-the-counter medicated redness reliever, not an allergy treatment. I follow its Drug Facts directions. Persistent redness, eye pain, or vision changes deserve attention from an eye-care professional.

What Does Skin Over 40 Actually Need? Five Basics I Researched

Here’s what came up again and again when I researched midlife skin. These are useful foundations to discuss with your own skincare professional, even if your actual routine looks different from mine.

  • Broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30+: Daily protection from UV exposure and photoaging, applied generously and reapplied as directed.

  • Gentle, hydrating cleanser: A mild cleanser can help avoid the tight, stripped feeling harsh soaps leave behind.

  • An appropriate retinoid: Retinol or prescription tretinoin may help some signs of photoaging, but start according to product or prescriber guidance and watch for irritation.

  • Barrier-supporting moisturizer: Ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid can help dry skin feel more comfortable.

  • Lightweight complexion color: Skin tint or cream blush can give the natural finish I like. Powder isn’t forbidden at midlife; I’ve just learned to use less, especially under my eyes.

And one 2026 makeup discovery I have to mention: ONE/SIZE Powder Melt Glass Setting Spray. My under-eyes get dry, and it helps my powder look less cakey. It has been one of the products I fell in love with this year.

Can we talk about what skincare looks like in 2026? We’re putting salmon DNA ingredients on our faces now? 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 When I first started researching PDRN, I had questions!

I’ve been using medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum, and I like it enough that I have another bottle on reorder. I’m also talking with my aesthetic injector about a professional facial treatment in December. I’ll share my thoughts after I’ve actually had it. Topical PDRN products and professional treatments aren’t the same, and evidence for cosmetic benefits is still emerging.

I also love StriVectin Tighten & Lift Advanced Neck Cream PLUS. We can spend so much time thinking about our faces that we forget our necks and hands. I’ve noticed my neck looking smoother and firmer, and that makes this one a product I enjoy keeping in my routine.

Here are five products I researched in connection with beauty trends. My use of medicube and StriVectin is firsthand; the AESTURA, CLIO, and Beauty of Joseon listings below are researched shopping options, not promises of personal results.

PDRN / peptides: medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum (about $18.90). Shop it on Amazon →

Barrier repair: AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Cream with Ceramides, 80 mL (about $32.00). Shop it on Amazon →

Glow-finish cushion makeup: CLIO Kill Cover Mesh Glow Essential Cushion Foundation (about $25.00). Shop it on Amazon →

Daily sun protection: Beauty of Joseon Dayscreen Moisturizer Sunscreen SPF 30 (about $17.00). Shop it on Amazon →

Neck care: StriVectin Tighten & Lift Advanced Neck Cream PLUS (about $62.00). Shop it on Amazon →

Prices checked October 31, 2026, and all five are sold by the brand or Amazon. Prices change fast, so check before you buy. A trending ingredient isn’t a guaranteed result.

Men’s Skincare Over 40: Five Affordable Amazon Finds for a Simple Routine

Gentlemen, you’re part of this conversation, too. A client recently came to me feeling stuck, like life no longer fit. He wanted to reset several parts of his life, including how he was taking care of his skin.

I did extensive research and recommended a simple five-product routine. After using it for a few months, he told me his skin felt softer and smoother. That’s his personal experience, and I was happy to hear it. I thought, why keep the research to myself? No gatekeeping around here!

Some bar soaps can leave facial skin feeling tight. Shaving can be irritating. Sunscreen matters every day, and men’s skin needs gentle cleansing and moisturizing just like anyone else’s. A product doesn’t have to say ‘for men’ to work for a man.

Gentle cleanser: NIVEA MEN Maximum Hydration Face Wash (about $7.32). Shop it on Amazon →

Morning moisturizer + SPF: NIVEA MEN Age Defense Daily Face Moisturizer SPF 30 (about $15.37). Shop it on Amazon →

Sensitive shaving: Gillette Series 3X Action Shave Gel, Sensitive, two-pack (about $6.97). Shop it on Amazon →

Night moisturizer: CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizer (about $13.62). Shop it on Amazon →

Often-missed exposed areas: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen Stick SPF 60 (about $8.09). Shop it on Amazon →

When I checked on October 31, all five together came to about $51.37 before tax and shipping. Prices change. The shave gel is for shaving days; sunscreen needs sufficient coverage and reapplication when outdoors. A dermatologist can help with persistent irritation or skin concerns.

My takeaway from helping him was simple: when we realize what worked before isn’t meeting our needs, we can learn something new. That’s just as true for men’s skincare as it is for ours.

Glow Over Perfect: What Beauty Means to Me at 44

The more I learn, the more I come back to this: care for the skin you’re in, then enhance what’s there. Hydration, daily sun protection, a little makeup placed where I want it, and enough confidence to walk into the room feeling like myself.

At 44, I’ve earned this face. I’m not trying to look 30. I want to look rested, healthy, and like me.

And if I leave you with anything, let it be this: stop putting yourself last. Self-care and self-love matter. Taking a little time for the woman in the mirror matters, and the people we love feel the difference when we’re doing well, too.
